Requirements

All volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation training session at the start of their shift. This training is essential for ensuring that volunteers are adequately prepared and informed about their roles, responsibilities, and safety procedures.

Attendance Policy:

  1. Mandatory Attendance: All volunteers must attend the orientation training session before starting their assigned shift.
  2. Arrival Time: Volunteers are required to arrive 5-10 minutes early before the scheduled start time of their volunteer shift.
  3. Late Arrivals: Late arrivals will not be accepted into the orientation training session and therefore volunteer shift. It is imperative for volunteers to arrive punctually to ensure the smooth functioning of the orientation process.

Content of Orientation Training:

  1. Introduction to the organization's mission, values, and goals.
  2. Overview of volunteer roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
  3. Safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  4. Any specific instructions or information pertinent to the volunteer's tasks.
  5. Q&A session for clarifications or concerns.

Confirmation of Attendance: Upon completion of the orientation training, volunteers will be asked to confirm their attendance, acknowledging that they have received necessary information and are ready to commence their assigned duties.

Compliance: Failure to attend the orientation training session may result in the inability to volunteer for the designated shift. This policy is in place to ensure the effectiveness, safety, and professionalism of volunteer operations.

Note for Lead Positions: In addition to the general orientation training, volunteers holding lead positions are required to attend a specialized training session scheduled for the week before the event. This training will provide comprehensive guidance and specific instructions tailored to the leadership roles within the organization. Lead volunteers are expected to ensure their attendance at this session to effectively fulfill their responsibilities during the event.

Thank you for your commitment to our organization, Maryland Mentor Corps and for adhering to this requirement. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the orientation training, please feel free to contact mdmentorcorps@umd.edu.
